The Story of the Leopoldi Fair

The “Leopoldi Fair” has a very old tradition: Already more than 300 years ago the Imperial Court with all its attendants, the clergy and the most important statesmen pilgrimaged to Klosterneuburg, commemorating Saint Leopold´s day of death in his home town.

In the Middle Ages meat, bread, wine and silver coins – printed with a picture of Leopold and his wife Agnes - were given to the people on that day!

Since 1663 Saint Leopold is the Patron Saint of Austria and November 15th is an official holiday in Vienna, Lower Austria and Burgenland.

Nowadays mainly families with children come to visit Klosterneuburg and the famous fair, as a commemoration of Saint Leopold.

Meat, bread and above all wine are still important fort this popular fair.
Small booths offer different specialities and snacks and the traditional “Vine Tasting” at the Babenbergerhalle offers the opportunity to taste the various products of the local wine-growers.

Fun and entertainment is guaranteed at the “Leopoldi Fair in Klosterneuburg!
