Art Brut Gugging
Focusing on the work of Gugging
Artists, this museum was conceived as a showcase
for Art Brut. In addition, the museum aims at presenting international
Art Brut as well
as other artistic styles in conjunction with Art Brut.
The museum has an exhibition space of 1,300 square meters at its
disposal. The facilities
also include a library, a visual archive, storage rooms and offices
for the curators,
as well as a multimedia space.
The exhibition program will be inaugurated with the presentation "Blug
- Four Decades
of Gugging Art." In total there are presented 500 pieces of
art by 24 Gugging artists.
The show has been designed to go on an international tour.
In addition to big exhibitions of this kind, which are supposed
to take place every
other year, Johann Feilacher has planned six smaller-scale shows
and one medium-size
international exhibition for the next two years. Each big exhibition
will be accompanied
by a catalogue/book and publicity materials.
The museum is integrated into the Art/Brut Center Gugging, which
also includes the
Gallery of Gugging Artists, the open Studio Gugging, offices as
well as the "Villa," a
multi-purpose hall for symposiums, concerts, and other events.
The museum will also
include a shop. A café/restaurant will open in 2007.
In 1890, this building first served as a ward of a psychiatric
institution. It was completely
adapted to its new purpose over the past few years. It is located
on a hill in the
Vienna Woods overlooking the future "University of Excellence."
